Verbier, Switzerland

Like some other meccas of free ride, Verbier’s snowboarding depends heavily on snow conditions. If it hasn’t snowed in more than a few days, boarders will find themselves faced with crowded groomed slopes due to the unappealing chopped up and moguled off-piste. Especially during the high seasons, you will find all the best descents from Mont Gelé and Mont-Fort totally covered with moguls. After a good dump of snow, though, be ready for extraordinary powder rides that can take you from the 10,925-foot peak of Mont-Fort all the way down to Verbier at 4,921 feet, with a few cuts around the gondola line of Médran 1&2. On good snow days, the Bruson area can also host good off-piste terrain.

The other three valleys connected to Verbier have good variety and nice slopes, but getting there and back on a snowboard is not only a pain, but also dangerous; if you don’t make it up the lifts back to Verbier in time, you’re stuck. In general, the lifts at Verbier are faster and of better quality than in the other parts of the four Valleys, so you aren’t missing anything by spending most of your time just in the Verbier section.

Unfortunately, the main Verbier ski area offers little haven to never-ever and beginner boarders. If you fall in to one of these categories, stick to either the Bruson or Savoleyres areas, which are excellently connected to the Verbier village.

Intermediate snowboarders will be able to find slopes matching their abilities all over the mountain except from Mont-Fort and Mont-Gelé. For the most variety and best scenery, we recommend hitting the lifts set around La Chaux, Les Ruinettes, and Attelas. From here challenge yourself on a steeper run, or take a break on a nice cruiser.

Advanced and expert riders will have a ball hitting the challenging slopes of Mont Fort and Mont Gelé. After a good snow, the itineraries from either peak all the way down to Tortin can keep you happy all day long.

The Neipark 1936 Snowpark at La Chaux, depending on snow conditions, is comprised of many table tops, rails, and one big-air jump sure to test your guts. On sunny days the park can be a nice place to hang out, take some jumps, and listen to some new French and Swiss music.
