Après-Ski / Nightlife
With 12 bars and discotheques, Verbier boasts some of the best après-ski and nightlife in the Swiss Alps. After stepping out of your boards, stop at the Pub Mont-Fort (027 771 48 98) near the gondola, a favorite of the British crowd. The music system is excellent and the selection is generally good, the bartenders are friendly, and the crowd raucous and eclectic. If youre staying in the center of town, however, remember its a long, wavering walk down with skis and ski boots. The English accent is carried over at the Big Ben Pub nearer to the gondola station, and down in the center of town near the round-about at The Nelson Pub. Le Fer a Cheval (the horseshoe; 027 771 26 69) halfway between the center of town and the gondola also rocks after the lifts close, and you can pass the time checking out the endless license plates from all over the world that are plastered on the wall. The Offshore (027 771.54.44) has a funky, well, right off the shore theme, and serves mostly as a before dinner après-ski hang-out. A favorite bar before hitting the discos is the New Club.
Weve been told that you may find a Swede wearing a football helmet banging his head against the wall at Bar'Jo, under Chez Martin, after they have imbibed a few cement mixers made with aquavit.
When dinner is done and the leg-strong still have dancing on the mind, the Casbah Club and Club Taratata play techno-music, largely for a younger crowd of 20-somethings. The Farm Club in the Hotel Rhodania caters to an older, more sophisticated crowd, many of them up from Geneva to visit their chalets. The scores of vodka bottles on the wall with names on them are for the regulars who come back every weekend. The atmosphere is nice, with stuffed couches and a smallish dance floor, but the prices will make your eyes roll. The Ice-Box Club is also popular with a slightly older, local crowd sprinkled with British visitors. Expect to pay about €13€15 for entry to most clubs, with drinks at the more swanky spots costing roughly the same.
