In addition to skiing that’s available 365 days of the year, Tignes has several interesting activities for those who want to spice up a weeklong visit or for nonskiers. In March and April, if the conditions are right, Evolution 2 Ski and Adventure School leads scuba diving tours under the ice of the small lake in Tignes Le Lac.

Tignes also lays claim to another unique activity. The Aquatonic fitness center spa is one of two of its kind in France. A complex jet massaging system in connected pools provides hydromassage as you take a lap through the different sections of the pool. The facility also hosts the most extensive weight room in the resort and offers strengthening and workout classes in the pool. Many Olympic athletes use the facility after races and competitions. Tignes hosts many different high caliber competitions that vary from year to year.

At the Hotel Village Montana there is a three-star (04 79 40 05 12) and a four-star (04 79 00 21 01) spa. The four-star was renovated and opened new in January 2003. Both offer full services, from massages and steam rooms to Jacuzzis and tanning rooms. The three star spa has an outdoor heated pool (€20 for adults, €15 for kids) open every day from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., but it closes at 7 p.m. for kids younger than 15.

For a truly unique activity, try ice diving in Lake Tignes. Led by an instructor along an underwater guideline, you can dive during the day or night. Through the openings that have been cut in the ice, you can catch spectacular glimpses of the mountain peaks.

Spend an afternoon in Le Lagon, the aqua center in the heart of Tignes which affords panoramic views of the town, lake and mountains. Le Lagon has an array of pools: a 25-meter competition-sized pool; a fun pool with water slides, whirlpool seat, geyser, waterfall and more; and a paddling pool for toddlers. If you ever get tired of playing in the pools, the facility also has a fitness area and a wellness area with a Turkish bath, 3 saunas and 8 different types of showers.
