There are more than 70 restaurants spread through the resort. Visitors can find everything from gourmet and bistro French to fine Italian and pizza to Tex/Mex to Japanese.

Val Claret
The restaurant in the Hotel Ski d’Or (479 06 51 60; photo right) serves exceptional gourmet meals and is relatively expensive. The restaurant Le Caveau (479 06 52 32) is also excellent and considered by many as the best in town. l’Indochine (479 06 08 07) serves good Chinese and Vietnamese dishes. For Savoyard decor and food try Grattalu (479 06 30 78) or Brasserie du Petit Savoyard (479 06 36 23). For crêpes try La Datcha (04 79 06 35 39). For good pizzas head to Pizzeria 2000 (04 79 06 38 49) or Roma (04 79 06 36 25). For Tex-Mex (well a French version) head to Daffy’s Cafe (04 79 06 38 75).

Tignes le Lac
Try L’Eterlou (479 06 33 53) or Le Bistro (479 06 49 75) for typical Savoyard cooking. Carlings is very English, in the Hotel Alpaka (479 06 32 58) or test the restaurant Escale Blanche (479 06 45 50).

Le Lac Le Rosset/Les Almes.
If you are looking for big and busy, L’Escale Blanche (04 79 06 45 50) should be your journeys end. Right off the Aeroski gondola, regional specialties are ski-in/ski-out during the day. Just less than 50 meters away, you’ll find L’Arbina (04 79 06 46 83; photo above) restaurant on the second floor of the Arbina hotel serves plenty of fish dishes and a daily menu for €25. Warm yourself by the fireplace at another hotel restaurant, La Montagne (04 79 06 31 30). Don’t leave without having a crepe or a gallette. For a different kind of experience, head to Le Clin d’Oeil (04 79 06 59 10). This small cozy joint seats only 26 people, and charges €30 for the fixed menu. Don’t fret however. This popular food is worth every penny if you are able to reserve ahead of time. The larger Le Paquis (04 79 06 37 33) has a spacious view over town. The €21-fixed menu is enjoyed peacefully overlooking the slopes. Les Chanterelles (479 40 01 44; photo below) in Village Montana is excellent and La Chaumiere in the same hotel has reasonable meals.

Dining in this area is more sparse than the other divisions of the towns, but it does host the Le Brasero (04 79 06 30 60), a good place for a variety of meat dishes. They also offer a €22 buffet of regional Savoyard specialties on Tuesday evenings. The alternative is Le Grenier (04 79 06 37 79), a straight up typical Savoyard restaurant. Standard regional specialties start from €13.80.

On the slopes
Head to Le Panoramic (04.79.06.60.11) at the foot of the glacier, it boasts spectacular panoramic views. The snack bar is overpriced but the view is worth the pause. The gastronomic restaurant is excellent with a Savoyard evening meal on Thursdays.

Le Bollin is on the slopes but only a short walk from Val Claret. Bring your credit cards without a limit. The dining is as they say in France, tres cher!

Savouna at base of the Col de Palet lift is easy to reach.
