St. Moritz, Switzerland

At 1 a.m. most nights, many visitors are still sampling St. Moritz’s great nightlife. The most famous address is the King’s Club disco at Badrutt's Palace (837-1000) where €20 gets you in (men, bring a tie) and buys one drink. The most fun we had, by far, was at the Stübli, the typical Swiss wood-paneled bar in the lower level of Hotel Schweizerhof (837-0707). The ski instructors come early and stay late. There’s usually so little room you are crowded, shoved and shuffled from one spot to another. The Cava Bar at the Hotel Steffani is the same style as the Stübli, but in a cave. It’s open from 5 p.m. to midnight.

The Cresta Bar in the Hotel Steffani (836-9696) is a good meeting place after the walk down the hill from the Corviglia funicular, but from there you might move on after 10 p.m. to the nearby Vivai (833-6939), a disco with a young following. Also nearby is Cascade (833-3344), a sort of combination bar and pub you’ll like almost as much as the Stübli. The younger set heads to Diamond (834-9769; photo above).

The Post Haus (located at the old Post Hotel site) has a restaurant, bar and lounge. It’s a new hot spot in town—great for cocktails and live music after 10 pm. Lord Norman Foster did the outside and interior design.

It’s chic in the late afternoon to order a hot chocolate and whipped cream-covered slice of Black Forest cake at Hanselmann, the famed chocolate specialist near the Hotel Albana in the center of town.
