We recommend that you come in January or March when the maximum price reductions are offered. Two sport packages are outstanding. Variation A includes a Schneewinkel six-day ski pass. Variation A has a starting cost of €235 for B&B and €383 for half board. Variation B includ-es a Schneewinkel six-day ski pass and six days of lessons. Variation B has a starting cost of €343 for B&B and €491 with half board. The sport package price for a first-class hotel or guesthouse is about what you’d pay just for accommodations at some resorts. St. Johann hotels and guesthouses offer the mid-range all-inclusive package.

Based on high season, per person/double occupancy with breakfast: €€€—more than €80; €€—€50–79; €—less than €50.

Our favorite deluxe hotels are the Ambiente Hotel Brückenwirt (Kaiserstrasse 18, 62585, fax 6258514; info@brueckenwirt.co.at; €€–€€€) with the town center right outside your door; Sporthotel Austria (Winterstellerweg 3, 62507, fax 65137; info@sporthotelaustria.at; €€-€€€) with a hotel swimming pool; Hotel Crystal (Hornweg 5, 62630, fax 6263013; info@hotel-crystal.at; €€) right along the ski runs; Goldener Löwe (Speckbacherstrasse 23, 62251, fax 62981; hotel@goldenerloewe-tirol.at; €–€€) the town’s largest with lots of package groups; and Bergwell Dorfschmiede (Speckbacherstrasse 24, 62323, fax 621678; info@hotel-dorfschmiede.at; €€-€€€) has a heated swimming pool and is three minutes to the lifts and the downtown.

For one of Austria’s best experiences try Hotel Gruber (Gasteigerstrasse 18; 61461, fax 6146133; info@hotelgruber.at; €€–€€€; photo above). It comes highly recommended for its atmosphere and service. The Gruber family does it right.

Hotel Schone Aussicht photo, St. Johann in Tirol, AustriaHotel zur Schönen Aussicht (Berglehen 23, 62270, fax 64626; info@schoene-aussicht.com; €€-€€€; photo right) with an excellent location on the slopes.

If you stay at the Gästeheim Aloisia (Schwimmbadweg 8, 62419, fax 64485; €) you will have the Panoramabad right outside your door. It’s almost like having a swimming pool right in your hotel for a fraction of the cost.

St. Johann has a multitude of excellent accommodations; we’ve never been disappointed. The tourist office can provide a full list and help with reservations. There are scores of Garni, Gasthöfe and Pensionen that have room and breakfast for less than €50 a night. That’s a steal.
