All the hotels are relatively new. Add 16 percent value-added tax to each of these rates.
All these hotels have good rooms with bath. They are listed in descending order of luxury. Rates are per person, double occupancy with half board in February. €€€€125+; €€€75€124; €less than €75.
Hotel Maribel (958-249111, fax 958-249146; €€€) is a small place with quiet luxury and only 31 rooms. It is considered the best place to stay on the mountain.
El Lodge (958-480600, fax 958-481314; €€€) is one of the top spots, right on the slopes with ski-in/ski-out.
Hotel Kenia Nevada (958-480911, fax 958-480807; €€€) This four-star hotel provides some of the towns best accommodations in a rustic Alpine style, all within walking distance of the slopes and most shops and restaurants.
Hotel Melia Sierra Nevada (958-480400; fax 958-480458; €€€; photo left) This four-star hotel is located at the Plaza Pradollano and only steps away from shopping, restaurants and the ski slopes. The lobby is cozy with heavy wooden beams and a stone floor give it a Nordic atmosphere.
Hotel Ziryab (958-480512, fax 958-481415; €€) is center-village and has impressive rooms. The hotel meals are all buffet-style, and it still is rated by Michelin!
Hotel Melia-Sol y Nieve (958-480300, fax 958-480458; €€€) is one of the original standbys with all the basics and a great location.
Hotel GHM Monachil (958-481450 or 902-481100, fax 958-48101; €€€€€), formerly Hotel La General. This hotel right on the main town square 30 meters from the first stop of the Parador chairlift and 40 meters from the Maribel slope has a restaurant with a solarium.
Other hotels to consider in descending order of luxury are: Rumaykiyya (958-481400, fax 958-480032; €€), Hotel Nevasur (958-480350, fax 958-480365; €€), Casa Alpina (958-480600, fax 958-480506; €€), Mont Blanc (958-481212 fax 958-481358; €€) and a B&B named El Ciervo (958-249409, fax 958-249461; €€; photo right).
There are also a series of Apartment-Hotels. These are basically condos with cleaning service. The two most luxurious are Aparthotel Cumbres Blancas and Aparthotel Ginebra (958-480456, fax 958-480438).
Cheap student lodging can be found at Albergue Universitario (958-480122), Albergue Juvenil Sierra Nevada (958-480305), Albergue Militar (958-481227) or Residencia Pradollano (958-480114).
Accommodations in Granada
Granada is only about a half-hour drive away from the resort, assuming no traffic and no bad weather. On most days, the commute to ski is not bad. It is recommended that skiers planning on staying in Granada rent a car and try to stay outside of the warren of narrow streets that make up the center of town unless they really want the full atmosphere. Also, try to stay in a place that has parking, since it comes at a premium in this city. €€€€125+; €€€75€124; €less than €75.
The weather in Granada can be 65 degrees while it is freezing up at Sierra Nevada. Staying here is perfect when coming for late-season skiing.
Dauro II (958-221581; fax 958-222732; €) good affordable place right on the main tapas street of town. Nightlife and wonderful restaurants are outside the door.
Casa Morisca (958-221100; fax 958-215796; €€) is a B&B in the Moorish quarter and full of atmosphere that will take visitors to days of yore with a columned patio and breakfast in the old stables.
Casa de los Migueletes (958-210700; fax 958-210702; €€; photo left) is a B&B in a 17th-century house with a tucked-away patio and rustic furnishings. It is just off the main square at the edge of the Gypsy quarter with nearby parking. Closed most of January.
Hotel Kenia (958-227506; €€) is built in an old manor building furnished with antiques and with a nice garden. It is only a short walk to the Campo de Principe, one of the tapas, dining and nightlife centers.
Hostal Suecia (958-225044 fax 958-227781; €) is a small place near the Hotel Kenia. Make sure to ask for a room with private bathsome rooms have shared baths.
These three hotel are on the hill near the Alhambra. Not as convenient to downtown, they are convenient to the back way out of town for a quicker trip to the slopes:
Hotel Guadalupe (958-223423 fax 958-223798; €€) is up behind the Alhambra with almost a country feeling. It is easy to head to the slopes here, and there is a bus that runs approximately every 10 minutes from Alhambra to restaurants and nightlife.
Los Alixares (958-225575 fax 958-224102; €€) is another hotel behind the Alhambra. It is modern and without much charm, and it is a bus ride out of downtown. But, it is convenient to the back way out of town.
Alhambra Palace (958-221468, fax 958-226404; €€€) offers a different luxurious, Old World experience. The views from the high-ceiling rooms over the town are wonderful.
