The most lavish and beautifully decorated hotel in Sölden is the Central Hotel (22600, fax 2260511; €€€). Even its pool is a cut above anything else in Austria. With Roman architecture, tall ceilings and classic paintings, it is unique.

The Sonnenhaus Tamara (5040, fax 50460; €€–€€€;photo right) which offers what may be the friendliest concierge service in Sölden. The furniture is new but the antiques are real.

At the Hotel Liebe Sonne (22030, fax 2423; €€–€€€), modern mixes with the old. A large rock fountain, marble floors and modern art combine with minimalist furniture. Apartments are available. They have their own ski school.

Hotel Erhart (2020, fax 20205; €€–€€€) is a four-star with a great restaurant. Franz, the owner and generous host, features ski safari and dinner/toboggan ride to entertain guests. The ski safari starts with schnapps and then skiing. Guests are grouped by skiing ability. On Thursday nights Franz takes the guests up the mountain to a hut for dinner and a toboggan ride down. Offers both vegetarian and children’s menu, beautiful wine cellar, sauna, and ski room. This newly renovated hotel is 5-10 minutes from the Gaislachkoglbahn.

Hotel am Hof (2241, fax 2121111; €€–€€€) This hotel has rustic post-and-beam construction, with wooden floors, fitness and massage room, sauna and steam bath, parking garage and ski room. It is off of the main road and central to town.

Hotel Sölderhof (5030, fax 50360; €€) Some rooms have showers and some have baths—if you have a preference, please request. This hotel hosts weekly activites for guests from a ski safari to curling instructions and games. Sauna, whirlpool, solarium and ski room round out the amenities. The restaurant also serves the public.

Hotel Hochsölden (2229, fax 225951; €€–€€€) is halfway up the mountain, in Hochsölden. This is a ski-in/ski-out property for most of the season. There are few extras, but the location is unbeatable. They have their own ski school.

Frühstückpensions — B&Bs
Wildespitze (2341, fax 234140; €) Britta Riml runs this 20-bed guesthouse only five minutes from the Giggijoch cable car. She speaks good English. Rooms all have private baths.

Prantl Stefan (2525, fax 2525; €) is more intimate with only six rooms in a working farmhouse.

The only British-style chalet is Gustl’s Farienhausl (2090, fax 2090-15; €) with eight beds.

Montana (5080, fax 50806; €; photo left) is a B&B with apartments, sauna, tanning bed, T.V. and radio in the rooms. It is at the base of the Giggijochbahn.

Arnold Andre (2269, fax 2954; €) is a B&B owned and operated by World Cup ski racer Andre Arnold and his wife.

Gastehaus Larchenpark (2386, fax 2386; €) is a B&B with its stained glass and crystal displays is near the Giggijoch lift. All 22 rooms have a toilet with either a shower or bath.

Obergurgl and Hochgurgl
Top Hotel Hochgurgl (05256-6265, fax 26510; €€€+) is perhaps one of the best hotels in the Alps, by any measure. It matches elegance with the Zürserhof in Zürs and the Palace in St. Moritz.

Hotel Wiesental (05256-6263, fax 63583; €€€) is very convenient to the lifts in the old town. It has an atmospheric, rustic restaurant.

Hotel Edelweiss and Gurgl (05256-6223, fax 6449; €€€+) is close to the lifts.

Hotel Madeleine (05256-3540, fax 354355; €€€+).

Hotel Josl (05256-6205; 6460; €€) is in the town center with Fen Shui-influenced design and a good après-ski bar and restaurant.

Hotel Gamper (05256-65450, fax 631760; €€€) is in the center of the town with an excellent kitchen. Special Week: €610–€655.

Hotel Ideal (05256-62900, fax 6302; €€€) is the bargain of Hochgurgl with all the amenities—sauna, fitness room, and garage.

Hotel Wurmkogel (05256-6246; fax 6307; €€) is the bargain in Hochgurgl.
