Lessons (2007/08 prices)

There are five ski and snowboad schools in Sölden and Hochsölden. They are Ski School Sölden-Hochsölden (5254 2364, fax 5254 3171), Ski School Yellow Power Sölden (5254 2203-500, fax 5254 30010), Ski- & Snowboard School Vacancia (5254 3100, fax 5254 2939), Freeride Center Tirol Markus Morandell (650 2665292) and Ski- and Snowboard School Aktiv (5253 6313, fax 5253 6313).

Sölden
Group Lessons — At the Ski School Sölden-Hochsölden: A day of lessons is €56, three days is €129. The weekly (6 days) charge is €189. Group snowboarding lessons are the same price as skiing lessons.

Children’s skiing and snowboarding lessons are €51 for a full day (4 hr.); and are €174 for 6 days. Lunch is an additional €9 per day.

Private Lessons — One of the best ways to tour the Oetztal is to hire a guide. As elsewhere, the more people to join your private group, the less you’ll end up paying. A four-hour private lesson for two people, for instance, costs about €190, but for each additional person, add €25. Three hours costs €160 and two hours cost €125.

Cross-country Lessons – Lessons are two hours per day. One day costs about €39, two days cost €70 and three days cost €100.

Obergurgl-Hochgurgl

The Obergurgl Skischule (tel. 05256-6305) has about 100 instructors and is considered on of Austria’s best. Group lessons cost €55 for a full day, €132 for three days, and €174 for five days. There is no significant reduction for children.

Private lessons for one or two skiers are provided in two-, three-, four-, five-, and six-hour intervals. Call the school for a complete list of prices. There are 3 two-hour lessons which are from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. with 15-minute breaks in between lessons. Two hour lessons cost between €113-€123. Each additional person costs €8. There are 2 three-hour sessions from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. with an hour break between. Each session costs €162 with any addtional people being €12. There is one 5-hour session which costs €240 with any addtional people being €20.

Obergurgl snowboard lessons cost €65 for a day, and €156 for three days.

Cross-country lessons are €33 for groups of at least four skiers for two hours. Snowshoe walks of about 2 hours (including snowshoes and lamps at night) cost €33.

The Hochgurgl Skischule (05256-6265) is much smaller with just over a dozen instructors. Its reputation is not as polished nor its courses as organized. Group lessons cost €55 for a full day, €132 for three days, and €192 for five days. Private lessons cost €130 for a two hours, €205 for four hours. Snowboard lessons cost €65 for a full day, and €156 for three days.
