Dining

Sölden has over fifty different restaurants, plus the hotels offer excellent meals as part of their full- and half-board options. Dining here is strictly by the clock when not on the mountain. Lunch is served until 2 p.m., après-ski is from 4 p.m.–7 p.m. and dinner follows. Tipping at après-ski is either round up to the next Euro or pay €2–4 over the tab.

Restaurant Dominic (2646; €), provides a religious experience, with stained glass ceilings, ornate wood carvings and pew-like chairs. Bring your credit card.

The Parkhotel Restaurant (2250; €; photo right) specializes in grilled food such as steaks and lamb chops at reasonable prices. No credit cards.

These next three places have great traditional Tyrolean meals. The traditionally costumed waiters at Die Alm ((2401; €€) serve meals amidst stuffed wildlife, train tracks and churning ceiling fans. The s’Pfandl (3607; €€) in Ausserwald and Grüner’s Almstube (€€) serve Ripplan, Kasspatzn, Knedlan and Gröstl.

In Hochgurgl, the Top Hotel Hochgurgl has a wonderful Tiroler Stuben. The Hotel Ideal, Hotel Laurin, Hotel Angerer Alm, Hotel Riml, Hotel Olymp and the Wurmkogl all serve good basic cooking as well.

In Obergurgl head to the Romantik and Belmonte for Italian food. Try the Gamper and then the Mathiesn for good Tyrolean cooking. The Josl is known for its wild game. Hotel Deutschmann has good fondue, raclette and tyrolean specialties. The Wiesental also serves excellent meals in the center of town.
