Neustift is a pretty, quaint, picture-prefect Austrian village in the Stubai Valley just south of Innsbruck.
The village is one of about a dozen or so (depending on your definition of village) that lie in this valley that leads to the Stubai Glacier, the largest glacier in Austria, and one that is open year-round for skiing and riding.
Here is the Neustift village map in pdf format.
Each village is as pretty as the next. The main villagesNeustift, Schonberg, Mieders, Telfes and Fulpmeshave their own character. A free shuttle plies the route between the glacier base station and Schonberg.
This valley was instrumental in the foundation of mountain tourism by the Austrian and German Alpine Clubs. Neustift was one of the first series of villages in Austria to construct a network of mountain paths and huts. As far back as 1891, Neustift established a mountain guide association.
