Les Menuires and Saint Martin des Belleville in Les Trois Vallées, France

Dining

With the emphasis on apartment living, one would expect only mediocre meals, but Les Menuires is a pleasant surprise. Search for restaurants close to your accommodation since moving cars and parking can sometimes be a hassle at night. The restaurants below are clustered by Les Menuires village locations.

St-Martin de Belleve region

The local dining star is La Bouitte (479 08 96 77; photo right) in St. Marcel, next door to St-Martin de Belleville, is probably the best restaurant in the valley with a one-star Michelin rating.

Both in St-Martin de Belleville: The Hotel Saint Martin (479 00 88 00) restaurant is excellent; Etoile des Neiges (479 08 92 80) next to the church is highly rated by Michelin.

Au Coin du Feu (479 09 97 52) is a traditional restaurant next to the bus station and just below the tourist office. They serve us a specialty called "la tartifle" that translated into English means baked potatoes. They are baked in the open fireplace and then slathered with the toppings of choice.

Most of the La Croisette restaurants are simple but good value. Try (in no particular order) Le Belleville (479 00 68 93), Le Chaudron (479 00 60 11), La Grange (479 00 23 58) and l'Isard (479 07 67 03).

Baroc Cafe (479 55 48 41) owned by the same chef that runs the Michelin-star Oxalys up in Val Thorens, might be called the cusine laboratory of the better know sibling. The focus here is cutting edge experimental cooking at a high gourmet level.
