Here is the Le Grand Bornand detail map.

Le Grand-Bornand is split into four sections. These sections are not as large nor as defined as those of La Clusaz. The bulk of the skiable terrain is pastureland in the summer, so excellent skiing is possible even when snow depths seem low. There are no large rocks to cover.

La Joyère area is directly above Le Grand-Bornand village facing southwest and garners maximum sunshine. The skiing here is mellow and perfect for families and beginners. There is a special beginner ski pass for this area.

Chinaillon has a north and northwest exposure with trails for all levels of skiers. This is also where much of the snowmaking has been focused and where the snowboarding facilities have been located.

Lachat is the top of the resort at 6,825 feet (2,100 meters). From this point, strong intermediates and experts will find plenty of challenge. The Noire du Lachat slope is considered one of France’s most difficult runs (when it is open).

Maroly is the section with the surest snow and the best views. It is an intermediate playground with long cruising trails and plenty of snowmaking.

Beginners and intermediates will have a swell time in either La Clusaz or Le Grand-Bornand. These are wonderful places for a romantic getaway for a mixed-ability couple. Many lifts offer side-by-side beginner and intermediate trails meeting at the bottom, perfect for families or friends of differing abilities.

Experts who know the area or who ski with a guide will find some toothy terrain with patches of difficulty.
