
Cross-Country skiing and snowshoeing
Cross country skiers carrying their skis can use the entire Kirchberg/Kitzbühel bus system without charge. Overall there are 120 km. of cross-country trails in the region. There are four primary trails ranging from easy to difficult and stretching some 36 km. around Kitzbühel. But a short ride on the free ski bus gives you access to more trails in the region, with breathtaking Alpine views far removed from the frenetic pace of the downhill slopes. Kirchberg just purchased new track-setting equipment to keep its trails well groomed. The longest loop, from Kirchberg to the Brixental, is 30 km.
In Kitzbühel, Reith, Aurach and Jochberg there are over 40 km with seven trails of various difficulty levels. A few must-ski trails include:
The 13 km trail which begins at Maurachfeld near the Hahnenkammbahn features challenging terrain on the way to Malern, Aurach and Jochberg (Jochberghütte). The sunny tracks of the "Cross-Country Arena", not far from Hotel Bruggerhof, lead to Kirchberg, Reith and around the Schwarzsee lake. At both of the starting points there are heated changing rooms together with rental equipment and ski service starting at 9 a.m.
The Hochmoor trail at Pass Thurn has guaranteed snow. The starting point is located at the Breitmoos Mountain Inn. There is night time cross country skiing on the Hochmoor and Schwarzsee trails, both of which are floodlit until 11 p.m.
In Kirchberg, there are three primary tracks:
The 9-km trail to Brixen is an easy to intermediate rated course though meadowland. Skiers have the choice to continue on the course to Westendorf. Access: Stöcklfeld - Obergaisberg
The 30-km Brixental Track extends from Kirchberg to "Feuring", part of Brixen. The terrain varies from easy- to intermediate-rated as you follow the double cross-country track to Westendorf East. You will have to walk a short distance before you can rejoin the track and beginning skiing again at the western part of Westendorf. The route back to Kirchberg takes you through the "Aunerhof" meadows and woods. Access: Stöcklfeld Obergaisberg
Aschau track is is 6 km long and usually has snow all season. It is rated as easy to medium. The main stations are as follows: Sportcafe Aschau Zwieselbauer Ebenau Oberlandhütte and then back to the Sportcafe. If you cross the street after Gasthof Falkenstein you can ski an additional 1 km-loop. Access: Sportcafe Aschau
SNOWSHOEING
The Kitzbühel Tourist Office organizes guided hiking trips and snow shoe walks from Monday to Friday. Meeting point: 9:45 a.m. in front of the office Kitzbühel Tourismus in the part of the town near the cinema. No need to register in advance. Free of charge for all hiking fans who have the Kitzbühel guests' ticket, otherwise €5 per person.
Spectacular 3-S continuous loop gondola hiking tour

* €40 per person for the gondolas, skibus and snowshoes
Hiking tour to one of Austria´s largest water storage ponds at the Resterhöhe/Pass Thurn

Registration for the 3-S continuous loop gondola hiking tour and for the hiking tour to one of Austria´s largest water storage ponds is required. Minimum of 4 persons. Only with guestcard from Kitzbühel Tourismus.
