Après-Ski / Nightlife
Grindelwald
The Gepsi-Bar and Expresso Bar (try Kaffe Fertig with Schnapps) are the singles meat market and the hottest immediate après-ski hangouts, where folk squeeze in and stay for the duration. Le Plaza Club disco in the Sunstar Hotel is the hottest spot for nightlife and gets crowded. Mescalero in the cellar of the Hotel Spinne is not as packed but gets interesting, depending on which groups are in town. For Country & Western music try the Challi Bar in the basement of the Kreuz & Post Hotel. The Bodenwald and the Glacier have traditional music and entertainment. For quieter conditions, try the Espresso Barhave Kaffe Fertig with Schnappsthe Alte Post Bar, the Hotel Wolter Terrace or the Hotel Kreuz Terrace.
Live music or a DJ for dancing and listening are offered nightly in the Hotel Grand Regina and the Challi Bar. The Cava Bar/Spaghetti Factory, under the Derby Hotel, has a local band for music and dancing from 9 p.m. Its closed Sundays.
The Mescalero Club under the Hotel Spinne and the Plaza Club under the Hotel Sunstar are both open to 2:45 a.m.
A nighttime adventure you will remember is sledding from the tiny Gasthaus at Bussalp back down into Grindelwald. A bus will take you up and sleds will be waiting after a fondue or other Swiss dinner. Call the tourist office for prices and to make your sled and din-ner reservations. (033-854-1212).
Weve been told that the Down Town Village is quite unique with bars in a glass globe.
Wengen
Check out the Eiger Hotels Pickel Bar, the Tanne Bar, Hot Chili Peppers and the Silberhorn terrace on sunny days for good après-ski. Nightlife is more limited here, since after dark only the group staying on the mountain will usually be around, although trains run until late evening. Try the Tiffany Disco in the Silberhorn, or Carrousel in Hotel Regina for dancing or head to piano bars for a quiet evening. The Tanne Bar and Rocks Cafè and Bar are good late night get-together spots.
Mürren
For immediate après-ski, head to the base of the Winteregg, to the old and rustic Stägerstubli filled with grizzled locals and a handful of tourists, the Bellevue across from the ski school, the pub in the Eiger Guesthouse for socializing, or hang out on the terrace of the Jungfrau Bar. For later nightlife in Mürren, head to the Hotel Eigers Tächi-Bar (photo above). This bar gets a crowd around ages 27 and up. The Inferno Disco has a mixed clientele ranging from ages 18 to 27. The Bliemlichäller in the cellar of the Hotel Blumental, with many video games, attracts a younger, virtually all-teenage crowd.
