Gstaad-Saanenland, Mountain Rides in Switzerland

People associate Gstaad more with the jet set than with good skiing, and that’s a mistake, because it has outstanding slopes for beginners and intermediates.

Gstaad photo, Saanenland, Super Ski Region, SwitzerlandThis Alpine village tucked into a scenic valley just east of Lac Leman (Lake Geneva), two hours from Geneva and 90 minutes from Interlaken, is part of a thriving ski circuit called Gstaad Mountain Rides. When you buy a lift ticket in Gstaad, or at one of the ten smaller resorts in the area, you can use any of 62 lifts opening up about 250 km. of prepared trails. The other villages lie stretched along the railway line (from east to west): St. Stephan, Zweisimmen, Saanenmöser, Schönried, Gstaad, Saanen, Rougemont, Chateau d’Oex, Les Moulins, Lauenen, Gsteig and Reusch accessible by bus up the valleys fanning from Gstaad. If you’re taking the train from Geneva, treat yourself to the special Golden Panoramic train that operates from Montreux to Gstaad and beyond. It doesn’t take much longer, but the observation cars have huge windows to take in the views of Lake Geneva, the vineyards and the Alps.
