Dining
Hallingstuene (left; 32091250) is the best restaurant in town and one of the best and most famous in Norway. It occupies an antique wooden house and has a distinct mountain house décor. The walls are covered with various landscapes. The fireplace is draped with pots and baskets. The refined and rustic meals are created from locally available ingredients. Expect dishes such as reindeer medal-lions, mountain stream trout, venison carparccio, forest mushrooms and, for dessert, pale cloudberries (a Scandinavian treat) picked above the Arctic Circle and served with vanilla ice cream.
The restaurants in Dr. Holm's and Bardola are also exquisite. The buffets that are laid out each evening are mind-boggling.
