Engelberg is a relatively small town (3,300 residents) with a major tourist capacity. There are nearly 17,000 beds available in hotels, guest houses and pensions, plus another 6,500 in private homes and apartments. Check with the Tourist Center for all reservations. The all-inclusive plan offers dramatic savings for a weeks accommodation and buffet breakfast, six-day ski pass, ski bus and other extras, starting at around €500 a week during most of January in a two-star hotel; €550 a week during most of January in a three-star hotel; €600 a week during most of January in a four-star hotel;. Berghotel Trübsee (041-637-1371, fax 041-637-3720; €€€) hotel has a phenomenal setting halfway up the Titlisbahn. The panoramas are unparalleled and the meals are fantastic. The cafeteria is open to the public during the day, but the wonderful dinners are for hotel guests only.
Hotel Regina Titlis (041-637-2828, fax 041-637-2392; €€€; photo right) is the most luxurious in town. It is considered the best.
Hotel Schweizerhof (041-637-1105; €€) has a covered pool and is in the middle of town. Guest can only have half-pension because the kitchen is closed for lunch.
Hotel Engelberg (041-637-1168, fax 041-637-3235; €€) is an affordable, pleasant hotel in the city center with an excellent restaurant.
Garni Sunmatt (041-637-2045, fax 041-637-1533; €) is a B&B only but a delight.
Hotel Crystal (041-637-2122, fax 041-637-2979; €) has an exceptional kitchen with very pleasant rooms at bargain prices.
Hotel Central (041-637-3232, fax 041-637-3233; €€) stands in an ideal spot in town with its own pool and sauna.
Chalet Espen (041 637 2220, fax 041 637 2233; €€€), one of the oldest buildings in Engelberg, is a British, catered chalet that's broken into two parts: the original 1750's chalet and a new ensuite section with six double bedrooms.added in 2007. Very nice atmosphere, and all about a 10-minute walk from the town centre (five minute-walk to the Titlis cable car).
If the hotels in Engelberg are fully booked, as they often are in peak season, the lakeside city of Lucerne is a good alternative. It is only 30 minutes from the slopes by car. It is a perfect arrangement for the non-skier/rider traveling with a skier/rider.
Apartments, condominiums, flats
Engelberg has much to offer the skier seeking apartment accommodations. Prices start at €250 a week for a one-bedroom apartment. The average apartment for four costs in January about €410, and in February about €475. These prices include cleaning and bed linens.
