Cross-Country skiing and snowshoeing (2007/08 prices)
Champéry has 10 km of trails for both classic and skate-style cross country skiing. There are 4 trails: the 3 km yellow circuit is rated easy; two read circuits (2 km and 4 km) rated intermediate; and a 1 km black circuit rated advanced or expert. Access to the trails costs CHF5 for the one day Grand Paradis pass; CHF25 for a weekly pass; CHF 60 for a season pass valid throughout the Alpes Romandes; and CHF100 for a season pass valid throughout the Switzerland. No pedestrians, dogs, sleds or children are allowed on the trails.
For a moonlight trek, skiers can also take advantage of 4 km of lit trail, for free, every evening until 10:00 pm.
Contact the Compagnie des Guides de Champéry (024 479 14 30 or 079 637 70 37) for a guided snowshoe tour of the Chemin des Contrebandiers (Smugglers Trail). At an altitude of 1,500 meters, Smugglers' Trail is actually just west of Champéry in a small hamlet called Barme. The hamlet and the trail have an interesting history that your guide will be happy to share with you on your trek.
