Lodging
Bormios hotels are concentrated in three separate places: at the base of the lifts, in the old town and just outside the old town (a bus ride away). With so much to do in town in the evening and an excellent shuttle system, staying at the base of the lifts is not necessarily a major bonus..
Prices are high season half-board per person double occupancy: €€€=€125+; €€=€75-€124; €=less than €74.
At the base of the lifts, Hotel Genzianella (0342-904485; €€; full week pension €550 - €590) ) offers subdued elegance. Most of the common areas have been remodeled with blond cirmiolo wood from the Alps. Meals are excellent. A great value with sauna, gym and waterfall shower.
Hotel Alú (0342-904504), Hotel Funivia (0342-903242), Larice Bianco (0342-904693) and Hotel Nevada (0342-910888) are all excellent properties right at the base of the gondola. Hotel Alú is the best of this group with superior food. (All €€; full week pension €546)
On the slopes, at the top of the Ciuk lift, Baita de Mario (0342-901424; €€; full week pension €504) has 22 rooms, spectacular views and great food. Its well worth the 5 km. drive into town. A week of full pension is about €574.
In the middle of the old town, Hotel Posta (0342-904753; €€) provides all the amenities and excellent service. Hotel Silene (right; 0342-905455; €) is right on the pedestrian main street. This small 15-room family-run hotel is a find in the town. San Lorenzo Hotel (above; 0342-904604; €€) is also in the Old Town only about a dozen steps from the pedestrian zone. Built in a former church, the hotel has an Old-World feel.
Just outside of the old center, the hotels are excellent with good shuttle service to the slopes and only a few minutes walk from the Old Town.
Hotel Baita Clementi (left; 0342-904473; €€; full week pension €560), only a few steps from the center of the old town, this small hotel provides excellent facilities including a fitness room, indoor golf driving range and a childrens play area. The rooms are spacious and leave little to be desired. The shuttle bus to the slopes stops in front of the hotel, otherwise it is about a 10-minute walk from the lifts. Food for the hotel guests is excellent.
Hotel Sant Anton (below; 0342-901906;€€€; full week pension €651), just across the street from the new Bormio Spa, is beautifully finished with touches of pine. It has a wellness center including sauna and hot tub. Most rooms have balconies.
Baita dei Pini (0342-904346; €€€; full week pension €665-€700) is between the old town and the slopes. The views in both directions are fabulous. The hotel has every comfort and great food.
