
Cross-Country
There are 95 km of skate and classic cross-country and biathlon ski trails in the Alta Valtellina at varying altitudes ranging from 1000 - 1300 m. of Sondalo, Bormio and Valdidentro to 3000 m of the Stelvio Glacier. Trails with altitudes of 1700 - 1800 m can be found in S.Caterina and Livigno.
The Alute Track - Bormio
Bormio's relatively flat, straight slopes make the area perfect for beginners and for those who simply want to go for a leisurely glide. This sunny area is a scenic treat characterized by wide open spaces and the gentle slopes. This track is also used for night skiing. Here is a trail map.
The Viola Track - Valdidentro
If there's an intermediate in the group, hop on over to Valdidentro where there's a little more variety. The Viola track begins at the Ski Stadium in the locality Baita Noa, winds along the right side of the Viola torrent, through the woods and finally ends back at the Ski Stadium . Skiers can see almost the entire 5-km ring which can all them to decide before they begin skiing if they can manage the trail's most difficult terrain. The Viola also has its own service building with bar, restaurant and ski rental and its own biathlon rifle range. Here is a trail map.
Also starting at the Ski Stadium are tracks are trails to Isolaccia and Le Motte. This system can be used either as a single track or as separate routes.
The Valtellina Track - Valfurva
Three World Cup races (1993, 1995 and 1997) were held here as well as the Nordic World Cup Finals in 2000. The altitude is just below 1800 m.and the area is known to have snow as early as November. This is where the experts should be. The 18-km. trail is groomed for both classic and skate skiing and requires a high level of technical experience. Here is a trail map.

The Mulin Track - Livigno
Every year in early December this long track which crosses the entire Spoel valley hosts the biggest promotional cross-country race in Valtellina, La Sgambeda.
The Villa Manara Track - Sondalo
The Villa Manara track, at 900m at the entrance of the Alta Valtellina, gets good snow coverage. It is currently under construction.
The Scorluzzo Track - Passo Stelvio
It winds for 6.5 km just under the Stelvio Pass, at an altitude of an impressive 2758 meters. Experts and professional athletes are attracted to this trail because it has decent conditions even in the autumn season. A provisional biathlon rifle-range has been installed in the area.
The Sasso Rotondo Track - Stelvio/Livrio
This is the highest track in Alta Valtellina. It runs along the Stelvio Glacier at over 3200 meters. Primarily a place for experts and professionals during the winter, it is also quite nice for lower level skiers in the summer.
