Cross-Country
There are over 90km of prepared cross-country tracks in the Gastein area.
Cross country skiing is guaranteed until spring in Sport Gastein: on a snow secure high trail system 1,600 metres above sea level. Night Owls can take advantage of the floodlit track in Bad Gastein (Böckstein District).
Cross country skiing trails in Bad Gastein
The Golf trail is an easy trail in the area of Badbruck/Kötschachdorf at a height of 960 m above sea level. Starting at the Gastein Golf Club, the trail leads over the golf course in the direction of Zottlau and returns to the starting point. It's approximately 3.5 km and can be used to link to Bad Hofgastein.

The 5 km Kötschachtal - Himmelwand trail is rated intermediate. The trek runs 1,100 m above sea level in the beautiful Kötschach Valley. From the starting point at the Grüner Baum hotel village the trail leads via the Malerwinkel towards the Himmelwandhütte and then returns to the Grüner Baum.

The 5km Böckstein trail is also 1,100 m above sea level. This easy course begins in Einstiegstellen and has two starting points: Ullmannwiese or the Alphotel Auerhahn in Böckstein. Skiers can wind over the flats and small hills of this circular course which will eventually lead them back to the starting points. Ample parking is available.

The scenic Sportgastein trail has different routes of different lengths ranging from 1.5 to 7.5 km, for classic skiing or for skating. It is 1,600 m above sea level which means that snow is certain for the entire winter and on until late spring when the trail has plenty of sunshine.

Cross country skiing trails in Bad Hofgastein
The easy 1 km Sportplatz trail is ideal for beginners and right next to the Achensteg Cross Country Ski School. For more advanced skiiers, there are also 2 km of trails. Skating lovers have their own separate skating track.

The Achen ski trail has three different routes of various lengths that skiers can choose from according to their ability levels. Beginners, Intermediates and Advanced skiers can take their pick of a 4 km, 6 km or 8 km trail. All trails start in Kurpark. From the Kurpart the trails wind along the Gasteiner Ache to the Gadaunerer Au and through Gadaunern and Heißingfelding back to the centre of the town. Skiers can also link to Golf trail in Bad Gastein.

The 3 km and 5 km routes that are available on the HHaitzing trail are both fairly easy. Start: "Wiedner" Achen crossing. From the Achen crossing along the Gasteiner Ache to the Schmaranzgut, returning to the starting point via Ober- and Unterhaitzinggut.

The beautiful Angertal trail is 1,178 m above sea level and has a 3.5 km circuit and a 7 km circuit which should please skiers who are rated intermediate and higher. It starts in Skizentrum Angertal.and leads along the Angerbach stream to the Haidegg-Gut, and on via the Sameranger and Bürgerwaldweg to the Talschluss. The Angertal trail leads back via the Wolfstall.

Cross country skiing trails in Dorfgastein
The easy-rated 4 km Mühlbach Trail starts below the Mühlbachstüberl guest house and at the "Stoani" pub. It has terrain suitable for both beginners and more advanced skiiers.

The Luggau Trail and the South Luggau trail link together to form 6.5 km of terrain that is gentle enough for beginning cross-country skiers. Skiers can start at the railway station in Dorfgastein or at several other points in Luggau.

The Unterberg Trail is divided into 4 km and 6 km sections and is recommended for intermediate and advanced skiers. Start at the Old sports ground in the direction of Unterberg.

Snow Shoe Walking
Bad Gastein:
You may choose the time of the walk that suits you when registering. Prices depend on the size of the group participating. Register with the Cross Country Skiing School Böckstein ((0664-4571250).
Bad Hofgastein:
Snowshoers meet every Tuesday from 1-4 pm, in the Ski Centre Angertal (between Bad Gastein and Bad Hofgastein) directly in the Ski School Office. Contribution towards the cost of the equipment is €4.00. Advance registration is available at the Spa and Tourist Office in Bad Hofgastein (6432-3393260).
Dorfgastein:
Tours run every Tuesday 1-4 pm. Equipment and guide cost €5 with guest card. Register at the Tourism Office Dorfgastein (6433-20048).
