Our recommended hotels in Morzine with star rating noted by ***s:

Les Airelles*** (450 74 71 21; fax 450 79 17 49; €€€; photo left) is modern, well-designed, and centrally located, with a big swimming pool, a toilet and phone in each of its 55 rooms. It has a big swimming pool and a fitness room.

Le Champs Fleuris*** (450 79 14 44; 450 79 27 75; €€€'; photo below right) has an indoor pool, tennis, a sauna and a fitness room.

Le Dahu*** (450 75 92 92; 450 75 92 50; €€€; photo below left) has similar amenities to Le Champs Fleuris for just a bit less per night.

Le Tremplin*** (450 79 12 31, fax 450 75 95 70; €€€) has a friendly atmosphere and a pleasant sitting area and bar. Located next to the slopes.

La Bergerie *** (450 79 13 69, fax 450 75 95 71; €€) is a residence hotel without a restaurant, but has rooms with kitchenettes as well as telephone, television, a parking garage, sauna and an outdoor swimming pool.

Just outside downtown, Chalet Philibert *** (450 79 25 18; €€) has 18 rooms – including three suites – all with television, safe, radio, hairdryer and telephone. It also has a pool, sauna, Jacuzzi, fitness room and an excellent dining room.

Le Carlina ** (450 79 01 03; fax 450 75 94 11; €–€€) is near the center of town and the lifts.

Le Sporting ** (04 50 79 15 03fax 450 79 11 25 €) is also near the center of town and has a pool, sauna, and fitness room.

Similar but just outside of town is Le Petit Cheval Blanc ** (450 79 13 89). Enjoy a nice swim in the pool after coming in from the slopes. Here, your day will start out right with a complimentary breakfast that hits the spot.

Bel ‘Alpe ** (04 50 79 05 50; fax 450 79 22 76; €), Hermine Blanche ** (450 75 76 55; fax 450 74 72 47; €), and Les Côtes ** (450 79 09 96; fax 450 75 97 38; €) are all affordable, excellent places to stay.

Also in Morzine is Le Mas De La Coutettaz, the “Farmhouse” (450 79 08 26; fax 450 79 18 53; €€), an 18th-century manor house. It's the oldest building in the valley with six spacious rooms. English tea is served in the afternoon, and at night guests sit around an expansive table for a family-style four-course dinner with wine.

In nearby Les Gets (part of the Portes du Soleil region) try Hotel Labrador (450 75 80 00; fax 450 79 87 03; €€) with an indoor pool and great views. Nagano ((450 79 71 46; fax 450 79 71 48; €€)is a great bargain. Alpages (450 75 80 88; fax 04 50 79 76 98; €€)has one of the best affordable restaurants. And Bellevue (450 75 80 95; fax 450 79 81 81; €€) is the best bargain of all for a simple hotel.

There is a great youth hostel in Morzine, equipped with 76 beds, car & cycle parking, luggage storage, credit card acceptance, a bar, and a pool. It is located just outside of the center of town and very close to the lifts. A reservation is strongly recomended during December, February and Easter.

Avoriaz:
This is primarily a resort of condos. The two hotels do not take groups. High season, when rooms are toughest to get and prices are highest, are Christmas, Easter and February.

Hotel les Dromonts *** (494 979 191, fax 494 971 149; €€–€€€) has 31 rooms and is a symbol of Avoriaz architecture.

Hotel de la Falaise (450 74 26 00, fax 450 74 26 20; €€–€€€) has 29 rooms with accommodations for one to four per room/suite.
