Palau de Gel (800840) in Canillo has ice skating, hockey, an Olympic swimming pool, fitness rooms, indoor tennis, squash courts and classes in everything from aerobics to skating to stretch to swimming. On Fridays, they offer carting on ice on the hockey rink.

Caldea (800995; photo above) is the largest thermal spa in Europe. The stunning glass building rises dramatically between the cliffs and apartments of Andorra la Vella. It houses a spectacular collection of lagoons and pools of differing temperatures, an outdoor thermal pool, suspended Jacuzzi tubs, baths, saunas, steam rooms, relaxation centers, massage rooms and more. Entrance is €24.50 for three hours; €65.50 for three three-hour days; and €98 for five three-hour sessions. This entrance includes use of the pools, Jacuzzis and most common areas. Bring your own swim suit and robe. Spa treatments and massages are extra. The Caldea also houses a series of upscale shops and a simulated helicopter ride over Andorra that shows off the landscape and elicits laughs, oos and aaahs from the audience.

Shopping: The entire country is duty-free. The main shopping streets are those of Andorra la Vella, the capital. You’ll find every kind of luxury item as well as excellent deals on electronics and computer products.

Skidoos/snowmobiling: There are snowmobile rental shops in Port d’Envalira between Pas de la Casa and Grau Roig that also offer guided snowmobile excursions through the Pas de la Casa region and into Soldeu El Tarter. Call 324010 or 327220 for information and reservations.

The Automobile Museum (832266) is exceptional. Anyone who loves automobiles will have a blast. This museum houses one of the best and most complete collections of antique cars in the world.

The Adventure Activities Centre has a wide range of activities including:

  • Guided snowbiking tours for adults age 18 and older.
  • Dog sleigh driving lessons on courses at the circuits of Riba Escorxada (El Tarter) and at the Adventure Activities Centre (Grau Roig). Or you can just have dog-sleigh rides along the snowy paths in a sleigh. The sleighs are for two and are driven by a guide. The circuit is located at the Adventure Activities Centre at Grau Roig.
  • A two-hour mountain adventure that includes a snowshoe trek, mountain orienteering and a class about the basic knowledge of the Avalanche Victims' Rescue Apparatus (ARVA).

  • A two-hour arctic adventure tour that combines different activities with the chance to practice with snowshoes, learn how to build igloos and drive a snow bike.

  • A 20-minute paragliding fight over Grandvalira in a bi-plane accompanied by a monitor which takes off at Tossa d’Espiolets (El Tarter).

  • Helicopter trips over the Andorran Pyrenees which can last 10 or 20 minutes leave from Pla d’Espiolets (Soldeu) and form the Adventure Activities Centre (Grau Roig).

  • Paintball in the snow at the Adventure Activities Centre in -Grau Roig.

  • Archery with targets that stand out against the white backdrop.

  • Igloo building for kids with monitors. It is based on the techniques of constructing an Eskimo igloo.

  • Grandvalira ice rink located at Pas de la Casa has specialized driving courses over ice and snow.
