Hotel Bonavida (851300; fax 851722) An excellent hotel undergoing renovation floor by floor. Rooms are large, and the location across the street from the gondola building is hard to beat.

Roc de Castell (851825; fax 851707) Very simple accommodation but clean and modern with a good location only about five minutes’ walk from the gondola in Canillo.

Tarter
Hotel Llop Gris (851559; fax 851229) is a large hotel right at the base of the lifts with excellent spa facilities and a fine swimming pool. The owner’s wife used to work with a circus. They purchased the circus wagon where she once lived and turned it into a special spot for a quiet drink and a cigar.

Hotel del Clos (851500; fax 851554) is in a good location across the main road from the lifts. It is modern with blond wood features, good sized rooms and a nicebuffet dinner each evening.

Hotel del Tarter (802080; fax 802081) Away from drunken pub crawlers and the disco crowd and is good for families.

Sport Hotel (870600; fax 870666) is filled with group tours but is quite nice. One of the main pubs in town is here, so crawling home is no problem. This together with the Sport Hotel Village are probably as good as group tour accommodations get in Andorra.

Sport Hotel Village (870533; fax 870533; photo left) across the road from the Sport Hotel is bigger, more luxurious, with a massive lobby and direct access to the lifts.

Hotel Xalet Montana (739333; fax 739331) sits on the opposite side of the street from the lifts and caters to more and more individual skiers. It is new and modern.

Hotel Naudi (739300; fax 852022) is a small family-run hotel that caters to individual tourists. The building has been constructed in the old valley style with lots of stone and wood.

Piolets (871787; fax 871788) is a run-of-the-mill group hotel with some good meeting facilities. If price is a consideration, this will offer adequate accommodations right in the middle of the nightlife action and direct access to the lifts.

Austria Hotel (735555; fax 735556) is a small place right on the main road. It is one of the less expensive hotels in town but is a long walk from Soldeu if you are planning on heading home late and not staying in this hotel. It has one of the more popular discos in town.

Pas de la Casa/Grau Roig
Grau Roig (755556; fax 755557) is as beautiful as a mountain hotel gets. This hotel is nestled in a hollow in the mountains that also serves as one of the main lift junctions for the region. The location is ideal and romantic, rooms are dramatic, the main restaurant is excellent, the lifts are steps outside your door, the pool and spa sparkling, parking is plentiful and the hotel works exclusively with individual tourists and has a long list of return visitors. Make reservations early. Full board here runs approximately €100 a day.

Other recommended hotels (that we did not have the opportunity to visit) over the pass in Pas de la Casa are Font d’Argent (739739; fax 739800) and Guineu (856661; fax 856662).

Apartments
Condos and flats are available throughout Andorra for weekly rentals. The normal rentals take place from Sunday through Saturday. Prices range from €200 per person for a studio for a week in low season to €450 a person in high season. Pricing, naturally, depends on location and level of luxury.
