The following restaurants are Ski and Snowboard Europe’s personal recommendations.

Soldeu/El Tarter/Canillo Pas de la Casa/Grau Roig
Borda de l’Horto (851622; photo right) in Canillo is a rustic spot just outside of the village. On a nice night it is about a 20 minute walk from the gondola building, otherwise call a cab.

Cort del Popaire (851211) in Soldeu is built in a rustic old barn and is full of atmosphere. The grilled meats are exceptional. The owner tells great jokes as well.

Cantina dels Racons (852607), in Canillo just down the road from the village, has good grilled meats on the main road.

Sangria in Meritxell (851327) is quite touristy but has excellent grilled meats.

Canut in Escaldes has excellent cooking.

Can Manel (822397) in Andorra la Vella is very typical with excellent snails.

L’Ermita in Meritxell (852500; photo above) is a typical restaurant in the same town as the church dedicated to the patron saint of Andorra.

Try pizza and other Italian fare at la Fontanella (871787; photo below) in the Hotel Piolet.

On the slopes
There is a new group of mountain restaurants above Canillo. One serves traditional Andorran meals, the second is a gourmet restaurant and the third has cafeteria service.

Gall de Bosc (890500) right on the slopes can’t be beat on a sunny day when you dine on the deck with great food and fine wines.

Espiolet (851176) above Soldeu and Riba Escorxada (852900) both are good sit-down restaurants where you can linger over a meal.

Hotel Grau Roig’s La Marmita is one of the best restaurants in the region. It is perfect for a long lunch prepared from local fresh produce and game.

Other recommended mountain restaurants are Llac dels Pessons (321683). Solanellas (344017) at the top of the Encamp gondola, and Coste Rodana above Pas de la Casa/Grau Roig ski area open for lunch only (800870). There is also a Pizza Hut at the Grau Roig ski lift hub.

Pas de la Casa
Restaurant Marisqueria Campistrano (856488) is the place to head for the most upscale gourmet dining. Expect to pay about €40-50 for a meal.

Arinsal/Pal
Borda Raubert (835420) is a very rustic, cozy and traditional restaurant in la Massana where a meal will be about €25 with wine.

The following are other restaurants in the Grandvalira area, but have not been visited by a Ski and Snowboard Europe contributor.

Haute cuisine
Restaurant Encanto Solanelles (759008) at Encamp at El Funicamp station has a large open-air terrace and the amazing panoramic views from inside, thanks to the plate windows are of special note. Here you can change out of your ski boots into more comfortable shoes in order to enjoy top Andorran cuisine.

Take the cable care up to Restaurant Encanto Roc de les Bruixes (890696) at 2,100 meters in Canillo, one of the highest rated restaurants in the whole Grandvalira resort domain. It has a celebrity chef and wonderful views of the Canillo valley from its terrace.

Restaurant Encanto Pi de Migdia (890635) is at the top of the El Tarter cable care and offers very sophisticated traditional mountain food.

Restaurant Encanto Gall de Bosc (890607) in Soldeu at El Pla d’Espiolets has international cuisine and panoramic views.

Restaurant Encanto Refugi dels Llacs dels Pessons (759015) in Grau Roig serves traditional mountain style food at 2,350 metres on the edge of a natural lake and surrounded by the Colells stone ring.

Restaurant Encanto Costa Rodona (800870) in Pas de la Casa was built to look like a mountain log cabin. This charming restaurant serves rice dishes, grilled meats, soups and other local recipes.
